Chapter 30: Mannerism Of The Transmission Of Revelation
Shaykh Abu Ja’far said that our belief regarding the transmission of Revelations was that in the Heavens, there was a celestial screen in the line of vision of Isra’fil. When God wanted to transmit a message, it appeared on the screen, and he was alerted. He read the message and passed it on to Michael, who relayed it to Gabriel and he took it to the relevant Prophet.
The Prophet Muhammad (S) used to undergo a state of trance when receiving a Wahy. His body appeared to become very heavy and he was drenched in sweat. This was due to God speaking to the Prophet, and not the presence of Gabriel, who used to respect the Prophet greatly and preferred to sit like a servant in his company.
