Chapter 20: Our Belief Regarding The Spring Of Kawthar

Hazrat Shaykh Abu Ja’far said that our concept regarding the Spring of Kawthar was that it was a lake that had the width that equalled the distance between Sanaa (in Yemen) and Aela (in Egypt).1

It specially belonged to Prophet Muhammad (S). It had drinking glasses that matching the number of stars in our galaxy and Amir Al-Mu’minin Ali Ibn Abi Talib (‘a) would be its cup-bearer. He would quench the thirst of his Shi’as and friends and remove his enemies away from it. The one who took a single drop of its water would never feel thirsty again.

The Prophet of God said that a group of his companions would be arrested and removed from the lake, while they would be struggling to reach him to satisfy their thirst. He would then call out to God that they were his companions. He would be answered that these people had initiated lots of vices and illegal acts after his departure.

  • 1. There were several traditions available on the significance of Kawthar. The author of Haqq Al-Yaqin had included the Ahadith of the lake of Kawthar, Lawa al-Hamd (Banner of Praise) and intercession among the most authentic and reliable traditions (Ahadith) of the Prophet.
