Shaykh As-Saduq said that the Chair (Kursi) was a mighty object, which contained all the Creation, including Heavens and the Earth1. The Chair was also given the meaning of Knowledge. Imam Ja’far As-Sadiq (‘a) said that in the Qur’anic Verse:

…وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ...

“…[God’s] His Chair [Kursi] encompasses Heavens and the Earth…” (2:255).

The term Kursi stood for God’s Knowledge.”
